Phytochromes are a class of light-sensing proteins that activate biological functions upon absorption of red light.

In our new article on Phys Chem Chem Phys, we investigate the spectroscopic response of a bacterial phytochrome, investigating the role of structural and vibrational fluctuations, finding that we can explain the absorption spectrum with the coupling of vibrations and electronic excitations. This ingredient will be fundamental to investigate the light-sensing mechanism.
